Manifold shop owners get a probability to 'tukar'

KUALA LUMPUR: The 10-year Small Merchant Transformation Programme or Transformasi Kedai Runcit (Tukar) aims to help tiny sundry outlets modernise and prepare for the goods and companies tax (GST). When small sundry shops learn to incorporate point-of-sale devices in their daily trading activities, this will help these people prepare for GST when the govt implements this measure, " said Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd managing director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin.
This individual said when ever sundry retailers were modernised to use point-of-sale system, it will be easier pertaining to the stores to itemise food items that were within or perhaps excluded coming from GST.
The Tukar plan offers options for 60, 000 small sundry retailers throughout the country to modernise and up grade with the help of greater retailers just like Mydin, Econsave and Speedmart99.
" The Tukar project was a collective vision beneath the wholesale and retail lab session organized by Pemandu (Performance and Delivery Unit), " Ameer said.
Beneath Tukar, traditional sundry outlets are offered the possibility to upgrade and undertake a face lift with the help of key local core companies like Mydin and Econsave.
" It is not necessary, it is voluntary. Sundry shop owners who wish to modernise can register with the government, " Ameer said.
The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry will play the role of a facilitator to set rules for huge, medium and small stores.
" Medium- and big retailers just like us will offer the time and effort to give consultation to small sundry shops for the proper layout of items, " stated Ameer. �
" We will be accomplishing this on a corporate and business social responsibility basis. Money is not everything. In fact , good competition amongst retailers, small and big, is healthy and balanced. �
" We have our own niche and that we want to try out a complementary role to small sundry shops. " �
